Workload Automation Engineer


A staffing organization has partnered with a public-sector organization to assist in their search for a DevOps Engineer, Level 2. In this contract position, you will serve as the primary owner and subject matter expert for the Redwood RunMyJobs (RMJ) Scheduler, managing and optimizing workload automation processes that support business-critical operations.

Major duties
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for the RunMyJobs platform, administering configurations, users, roles, security settings, patches, upgrades, agents, and connectivity across environments.
  • Design, build, maintain, and optimize automated workflows, batch schedules, job chains, dependencies, triggers, calendars, priorities, execution windows, and scheduling logic based on business and technical requirements.
  • Monitor job execution, alerts, system performance, and SLA adherence; troubleshoot job failures, delays, performance issues, system errors, and other production incidents, including providing on-call support for critical batch failures.
  • Support integrations between RunMyJobs and enterprise applications and data sources, including APIs, file transfers, event-driven processes, and file-based ETL/ELT workflows.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, integration, data, reporting, operations, project, and IT leadership teams to gather requirements, support testing and implementations, document processes and configurations, and identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.

What are we looking for?
  • 5+ years of direct, hands-on RunMyJobs experience, including day-to-day administration and troubleshooting, along with strong knowledge of job scheduling concepts, dependencies, workflow orchestration, and automation.
  • 5+ years of scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, Bourne shell, Python, or similar languages to automate batch processing and system monitoring, plus experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Linux and Windows operating systems, application installations and upgrades, configuration management, batch dependencies and execution windows, and troubleshooting CI/CD or migration-related incidents.
  • 3+ years of integration experience, including consuming APIs and running or controlling file-based ETL/ELT processes, as well as experience working with mainframe systems and JobTrac.
  • Preferred experience includes data-focused modernization or legacy migration initiatives and familiarity with mainframe technologies and processes such as IMS, COBOL files, JCL, and batch processing.

Exciting Opportunity Details
  • Rate: $81/hr
  • Worksite Location: Remote
  • Normal Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, unless otherwise coordinated
